Stockholm in photos

After living in Sweden for almost four months, I finally took a train to the country's capital, Stockholm, with Russell last weekend. Other than going to the famous Vasa museum, we didn't have anything specific planned, and decided to go on foot and discover the sights as we explored. Below are some highlighted photos from the trip.

  1. In case you don't know what you were looking at:

    1. A statue by Carl Milles, in the background is Riddarholmskyrkan

    2. Looks like a part of Stockholm city hall, which contains offices of city officials and the banquet halls where the Nobel prize is awarded.

    3. The parliament

    4. Another picture of the city hall. This isn't really the grave of Birger Jarl, but it was meant to be. The remains were never moved though.

    5. Looks like a flower pot outside the city hall.

    6. Another picture of the parliament. In the background is Storkyrkan, which you may have seen on tv if you watched the royal wedding.

    7. Looks like a lion decoration on the castle.

The wings of the castle were built before the fire in 1697. The architect couldn't be happier that the old and (in his opinion) unsightly castle disappeared so that he could rebuild the entire thing in italian palazzo style.

  3. I forgot Rosenbad, between Birger Jarl and the flower pot. :)

Rosenbad contains the office of the prime minister and a few other state officials.
